Lighting Up: Matches Vs Lighters

Cigars are more expensive than traditional cigarettes. This is because the tobacco quality and volume are much higher in them. The experience that they go through while smoking is important and thus each decision matters, including how they are lit. There are two options for lighting your cigar: matches and lighters.

Does it matter which one you choose? It certainly does matter. Lighters can use several different fuel sources to create the flame that you use to light your cigar. That fuel source may contain chemicals that can alter the taste of tobacco. For example, petrol lighters taint the flavor of cigars, but butane ones burn clean and do not alter the taste. Wood matches also do not alter the taste of cigars. So, we recommend that you always use wood matches, when possible, to light your cigars.
